A few weeks ago I planned to go to Vietnam sort of on a whim because I had to leave the country to renew my Thai Visa AND wanted to visit an artisan village in Vietnam. I left with intentions to stay for just one week and my only expectation was to see a bit of Northern Vietnam and meet Mrs. Mai from the weaving village.
A day before I was to depart back to BKK — I received an e-mail from my sister with a phone number to contact my family from my father’s side and since I’ve had no relationship with my father all my life, I knew nothing about my paternal family. I didn’t even know I still have a grandfather left!
Long story short, I changed my flight and one week in Vietnam turned into 17 days. I ended up traveling approximately 1400 Kilometers through Vietnam; half of of which was by a motor bike and it was incredible (exhausting) but a truly unforgettable experience.
One that ended with many new friendships a new found appreciation of my Vietnamese heritage and meeting my paternal family — a detailed post will be up soon on my wordpress.
Just a brief update for now and some awesome black and white photos of my parents & family shared with me during my visit in Vietnam. Now I’m off to the artisan villages in the North of Thailand again for the next few days! Ciao Ciao :)
A great urban exploration tour in my beloved city, organized by Bangkok Vanguards.
This is a short video I’ve put together with some footage of Bangkok, off the beaten track! Enjoy :)
